Getting quick and fast support is one of our top priorities to our customers. Sometimes getting it to them can be a challenge, until now. In this article we are going to layout how to setup your computer for our support staff to login remotely and see what settings you need changed.
The program we like to use is called TightVNC in which the VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. There home page is at http://www.tightvnc.com/.
The first step is to simply download the application from here http://www.tightvnc.com/download.php. If you are using windows like most of our clients do just click the top download link and it will direct you to a page that downloads the software from a mirror. After downloading this program like 99% of all other windows programs you download you will need to double click it and run the install application.
When you install you are going to click Next about a dozen times, everything is usually the way your going to want it anyways. We reccomend installing the full installation that includes the client and the server application. After everything is installed you will click Finish to close out of the installer program.
The next part of this tutorial comes into actually using the application. TightVNC is broken down into two programs the first is the client and the other is the server. The vnc client software is used to login to other computers (windows/unix/linux/mac etc.) currently running the VNC server software. The VNC server software is to allow clients to login remotely into your computer. When logged into a computer remotely a person can
- change and edit settings on remote computers if needed.
- transfer files back and forth from one computer to the other.
- just watch another person give a demo over the internet of a whole desktop or just a spefic window.
